Hello and welcome to Derek D. Writes! No matter what brought you here, thank you for visiting. I thought it would be appropriate for the first post here to serve as, if you don’t know who I am, an introduction and if you do, an answer to your very natural question: “Why is he doing this?”
My name is Derek Dalrymple, I am 26 years old, and I was born and raised in the suburbs northwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I still reside. In the shadow of COVID-19 during the spring of 2021, I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s in Journalism. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to do for a career until meeting some great folks in the Twin Cities radio scene, and for about three years was a minor contributor to the largest morning show in the market. After that chapter ended in February 2025 and knowing I could not and would not want to continue getting by with my retail job, I needed to find a way to establish my voice. Hence the existence of this site, derekdwrites.com!
Throughout high school and college, writing was just about the only thing I was skilled at and consistently found joy in. I’m passionate about my interests, which include music, sports, movies, geography, wildlife and photography, and my goal with this site is to use my enthusiasm for all of these things to put myself out there, connect with others and hone my skills in an attempt to see where writing about what I love can take me. Whether you’re viewing this through the lens of an old friend seeing what I’m up to, a prospective employer/client scouting my portfolio or a stranger scouring the web for another list ranking Bruce Springsteen songs (hopefully coming soon), I’m really glad you’re here and hope it is worth your time.
